The Faculty of Chemistry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) buzzed with environmental action as it hosted the highly anticipated Plastianguis 2025. This recycling event, now a staple for promoting sustainability, saw enthusiastic participation from various organizations and individuals, including a notable contribution from Leschaco.
Leschaco, a company committed to environmental responsibility, actively engaged in Plastianguis 2025, encouraging its members to exchange collected plastics for "plastipesos" – a unique currency used within the event. Demonstrating a strong commitment to recycling, Leschaco successfully contributed a substantial amount of plastic waste, totaling 66.28 kilograms.
This impressive collection included:
55.30 KG of PET (commonly found in bottles and containers)
9.48 KG of PEAD (used in detergent and food packaging)
1.5 KG of PVC (often used in pipes and toys).
In return for their diligent recycling efforts, Leschaco received 385 plastipesos.
This innovative system allowed participants to exchange their plastipesos for essential household items such as soap, oil, rice, pasta soup, and more.
True to their community-focused values, Leschaco will be donating all the acquired products to a vulnerable community in need. This initiative highlights the power of collective action in addressing environmental concerns while simultaneously supporting those facing hardship.
