Leschaco Mexicana teams up with the Food Bank Network of Mexico to raise awareness on food waste and support vulnerable communities.
A Wake-Up Call for All of Us First and foremost, thank you to all the colleagues who took the time to join today’s session. Your participation demonstrates that at Leschaco, we are eager to learn and make a positive impact.
Today’s talk with RedBAMX (Red de Bancos de Alimentos de México) was more than just a presentation; it was a powerful reality check regarding our consumption habits and their impact on the planet.
Raising Awareness: The High Cost of Food Waste
We learned a shocking reality: In Mexico alone, nearly 30 million tons of food are wasted annually. But the problem goes beyond hunger.
As RedBAMX explained, food waste is a massive environmental issue:
Climate Change: If food waste were a country, it would be the third-largest polluter in the world.
Emissions: The waste generated in Mexico produces the same amount of CO2 emissions as the entire vehicle fleet of CDMX, Guadalajara, and Monterrey combined.
This session reminded us that #EnMéxicoLaComidaNoSeTira (#InMexicoFoodIsNotWasted). Fighting waste is a direct way to fight climate change.
Turning Awareness into Action: Donation Drive
Inspired by what we learned, Leschaco Mexicana is launching a nationwide donation drive to support the "Alimenta con Propósito" (Feed with Purpose) program.
We want to turn our awareness into tangible help for families in need near our offices.
How to Contribute: We are collecting non-perishable food and basic hygiene products.
Foods: Rice, beans, lentils, sugar, oil, canned tuna/vegetables, pasta.
Hygiene: Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, diapers.
Acknowledgments A special thank you to Ana Moreno and the entire Human Capital Team for organizing this insightful talk and leading the logistics for our donation drive across the country.
Let's work together to reduce waste and share with those who need it most!
