The 10th Annual Global Dangerous Goods Confidence Outlook, developed by Labelmaster, DGeo, IATA and CurTec, offers a comprehensive snapshot of how the industry is evolving and where it’s headed. With insights from nearly 300 Dangerous Goods (DG) professionals worldwide, the report reveals a sector in transformation, driven by innovation, investment and a growing recognition of DG and chemical handling as a strategic business priority.
Confidence Built on Investment
According to the survey, 57% of DG professionals are very confident in their company’s ability to maintain compliant and safe operations. However, confidence in supply chain partners remains low. Only 22% trust their upstream partners and 19% their downstream ones.
This disparity underlines a key finding of the Outlook: confidence is directly tied to investment: Companies that proactively invest in DG operations and integrate compliance into broader business strategies consistently outperform those that do the bare minimum.
Three Compliance Profiles
The report categorizes DG companies into three distinct profiles:
- Competitively Compliant: Treat DG as a competitive advantage and invest in future-proofing operations
- Safety Compliant: Focus on safety and current standards
- Basically Compliant: Meet only the minimum legal requirements, often with limited resources
Competitively Compliant organizations report the highest confidence levels and are most likely to adopt advanced technologies like AI-enabled audits and smart packaging solutions.
Innovation Driving Transformation
DG operations are undergoing a digital revolution. Companies are embracing:
- Smart sensors and traceability tools (used by 43%)
- AI-based compliance systems
- Virtual training and automated labeling
- Cloud-based data sharing and e-documentation
Packaging remains a critical focus. 57% of respondents experienced cost or reputational damage due to packaging failures and 60% plan to invest in smarter packaging within the next two years. Sustainability is also gaining traction, with 39% of companies increasing their focus compared to last year.
Looking Ahead
While most Dangerous Goods professionals feel equipped to meet today’s challenges, only 33% believe their operations are ready for future demands. As regulations tighten and supply chains grow more complex, the need for smarter, more resilient DG strategies becomes urgent.
