Leschaco Brazil Celebrates World Environment Day with Focus on Awareness and Action

In observance of World Environment Day, Leschaco Brazil hosted a 30-minute online meeting for its employees. The session, led by Barbara Nunes, Alessandra Meira, and Viviana Luz, engaged 49 participants in discussions on environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

The presentation commenced by highlighting the significance of World Environment Day and introducing the UN Sustainable Development Goal #12, which Leschaco has identified as a core focus for its corporate social responsibility initiatives in the coming years.

The meeting delved into several key environmental topics:

  • Forests: Emphasizing the vital role forests play in maintaining ecological balance, the session also provided updates on the area where Leschaco employees planted trees last year.

  • Water: The importance of water as an essential natural resource was discussed. Practical tips for reducing water usage in daily life were also shared, such as taking quick showers, turning off taps while brushing teeth, and reusing washing machine water.

  • Recycling and the 5Rs: Employees learned about the "5 Rs of Recycling"

    • Reduce

    • Reuse, focusing on reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. The presentation also clarified what qualifies as recyclable waste and what does not.

  • Sustainable Tips: The session provided actionable advice on various sustainable behaviors, including: 

    • Energy Saving: Tips on how to reduce energy consumption, such as turning off lights in unused rooms and replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs.

    • Conscious Consumption: Encouraging sustainable habits like avoiding plastics, using reusable items, and choosing products with refilling options. Information was also shared about companies offering reverse logistics programs or discounts for used products/packaging.
    • Sustainable Fashion: Tips for more conscious clothing consumption were provided, including preferring thrift stores, donating old clothes, and reusing items with customizations. The presentation also highlighted NGOs that accept fabric scraps for sewing workshops and social projects.

    • Social Behaviors with Positive Impact: The importance of actions like using public transportation, carpooling, and avoiding unnecessary car use was discussed.

The initiative underscores Leschaco's commitment to promoting environmental responsibility and empowering its employees to make a positive impact on the planet.
