On March 25th, our team in Mexico kickstarted the year's initiatives with a strong focus on one of the pillars of the Social Responsibility department- Our Planet. This exciting event aimed to make a positive impact on the environment through various activities, including reforestation efforts, lake cleaning, and a visit to the Xochimilco Ajolotario. During the visit, participants received a captivating talk about the crucial importance of conserving this endangered species and the significant benefits it brings to the ecosystem.
The event brought together a large number of passionate individuals who wholeheartedly embraced the cause. Over 80 colleagues and volunteers from Special Olympics joined forces, dedicating an impressive 366 hours of their time to make a difference. Together, they achieved remarkable results, collecting 122 sacks of garbage, including nearly 50 kilograms of inorganic waste and a staggering 503 kilograms of organic waste. Furthermore, their efforts led to the planting of 50 trees, fostering a greener and healthier environment.
By organizing this first initiative under the Our Planet Pillar, #WeCare Mexico directly contributes to the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 13: Climate Action. This event serves as a testament to the organization's commitment to environmental sustainability and its dedication to creating a more climate-resilient future.
An important aspect to highlight is the enthusiastic participation of our friends from Special Olympics. Their presence added a touch of inspiration and unity to the activity. Notably, María Lourdes Amezcua (Lulu), an athlete adopted by Leschaco Mexico to participate into the World Games in Berlin 2023, actively joined the team in cleaning the Xochimilco Lake, leaving a lasting impact on both the environment and the hearts of all involved.
The success of this event highlights the profound impact that collective efforts can have on environmental conservation. It serves as a reminder that each action, no matter how small, contributes to building a sustainable future. The commitment and dedication demonstrated by all participants exemplify the true spirit of social responsibility and the power of collaboration.
